    Monster Hunter

Post  Dio on Sun Nov 01, 2009 6:01 pm

So, recently i've been finding myself spending allot of time playing monster hunter.
Infact I've done quite well for myself defeating 3 new types of wyvern.
This is of course on the old MH1 game for the PS2.

While doing some googling to find details on items etc I decided to check when the Wii game will be coming out,
seems it's due for a 2010 release in the EU, and the American release is in march so chances are we'll get our release then aswell.

Assuming that I steal my bro's Wii like I intend to and grab a copy I was wondering who else might consider joining me on it, seeing as it's got online co-op like it's predecessors. Chances are i'll be going as a lancer again, though i'm considering being a gunner or using a hammer.

Dunno which one to post in, but ill just post here then...

Well, i have played a respectable amount in the PSP version, at Hunter Rank 5

My favourite weapon would be the gunlance, but I'm too used to the simple-ness of the hammer (chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarge-release).

How's it going to work? I know in Japan the netplay is a "pay to play" system but I've not heard if it's gonna be the same over here.

Monster Hunter 3'd my way through today, Which hrm... Happened to be Mcmicken's birthday - However I didn't hear from him so I can only presume he was off doing his own thing.

Defeated some wyverns with my 12 year old cousin in the arena, which was 'rad'.

I'm totally pleased that allot of my annoyances from MH1 have been cleared up, I mean wow I can even combine and sell shit from the box without taking it all to the traders. Sweet! Also armor 'skills' are allot more effective and apparent than in the original [They were nearly non existant basically]

Though... I don't lance anymore [Dun Dun DUN], I've taken up Great-Swording - Going to upgrade it into a Long Blade so I can go mental on monsters... Ironically that means i've gone from complete defense to total offense. To be honest it suits the wii-mote controls a bit better. I might have lanced if I was using a classic controller mind you. Initially I was going to have a switch axe the new weapon for this edition but i've no idea how to get one made. scratch

With any luck i'll get a online group once i've configured the Wii to work with our router or find another arena buddy now my cousins headed back off to The Netherlands.

Just had an epic hunt in the resource gathering freemode, no seriously.

I discovered I had access to a farm area - and hey the Catpeople had even given me a pet pig! [Awesome!]
So, happy to meet my porky new friend I used the 'Snuggle' command which gave some silly music and then the pig ran off into the Moga Woods. Worried about losing my new porky pal to raptors I headed out after it.

After searching through each area and having my health chipped away by all manners of beasts I was about to give up on the search when suddenly; I had been spotted!? By what?! The telltale howl of a Great Jaggi and the sudden swarm of raptors quickly filled me in on that! However, I was at a disadvantage - I only had my sword and a couple fish to take the beast down with!

So I battled defensively, being pushed back area by area as my health was chipped away at the beast - however every retreat had left the beast equally battered! It came to a shoreside fight, my supplies of fish had been depleated and my hunter's stamina was low - Lowering it's head it rammed me into out into the waves - When I spied opportunity!

Shells and bones! I made a fishing spear from the debris at the bottom of the ocean quickly and stabbed my way through a passing shoal - Looks like my hunter was back in business! I exploded from the waves and forced the Great Jaggi into a retreat accross the map limping in it's attempt to escape my blade, but I headed it off again and again untill it was but me and the Great Jaggi - No more fish - and nothing for it to feed upon.

As we clashed to the last a flock of Kelbi deer watched nervously from accross the cavern that staged our duel and a final raptor joined the fray at the last moment. Realising it didn't have much left in it I prepared my blade and let my hunter charge a swing and the beast made it's own charge at me - as I released the charge into a swing a flash of steel informed me that this blow was as hard as it was going to get - it connected and the beast faltered, and fell.

I took a look at the last raptor. The last raptor took a look at me. The Raptor ran for it's life.

Went out and captured two Great Jaggi today, going to have to battle the Qurupeco in the desert next.

The damn thing can summon just about any other monster thats on any area of the map to fight for it; in other words if you have to hunt it and theres a Rathalos on the same map? Guess what; you have to fend them both off or bail every time the Rathalos is summoned if you want to kill the Qurupeco.

Did I mention the Qurupeco can increase the attack damage of it'self and all nearby monsters, it can spit globs of mucus which make your extra flammable, it can explode you with a weird wing-blast and also it has the ability to heal it'self and all nearby monsters aswell?

    This bastard is going to be a bitch to kill... However;

The desert battle track is pretty sweet as far as hunting music tracks go.

Went on two Great Jaggi hunts with KingK today,
the online chat function is utter pish like.

Hoping to get some good hunting session in with KingK and form a epic hunting team.
I'll probably take him on some smaller mission to begin with so he can get used to routines for dodging/rolling and putting away his weapon so he can get more hits in during boss fights.

Also KingK; Do NOT stand infront of the Great Jaggi - You will get bitten!

But that damn greatsword takes forever to swing, I so want a longsword.. now.

    Your switching to lance then.
Lance is the boss of blocking tactics, infact it has a technique called "Headlocking" once your high level, which consists of making the monster flinch by hitting it's face over and over with the right timing.
It takes far less stamina to block with a Lance and that means that it's less likely you'll be guard crushed or damage will get through the block.

Cool, also I've switched to lance now, might switch to longsword when I can get one.

Also, I've killed 7 Great Jaggi now, and captured 2, also killed a Qurupeco.

I got a full Jaggi set, and Attack Up(M)

Got into a sweet 3 man hunting team today so i've been mowing down Ludroths and Qurupeco's left right and centre.
We never managed to beat the Barroth sadly however.
Also I noticed in my profile that I have the 'Commander' title available for defeating over 20 Great Jaggi.

Capturing things in the Moga Woods is the best way to get rare items for trading with the merchant by the way.
Also as I said before, beating either the "Cold Stones" or "Leader of the Ice Pack" will unlock the long blades.
Fairly sure Switch Axe becomes available after you beat "Leading the Charge".

Though, aren't all the types available online at the Master Armory?
PS. if I can i'll give you a long blade I have spare.

Yeah, I think they're all available online, I dont have the materials though xD

And I dont think you ever told me when I got Longswords before.

But yeah, im just needing to kill some more Qurupeco so I can get 2 "Strange Beak" and upgrade my lance again.

Hopefully I won't have to fight the Barroth again since I just did it 4 times with other people.

    I've got an idea for a silly (Griefing) game;

    1. Stock up on Dung Bombs.
    2. Join someone else's hunt vs a big monster...
    3. Try to bomb the other player with the bombs at the worst times when they're trying to hunt.
    4. ????
    5. PROFIT!
